Rick Majerus: The Encyclopedia of the 4-Out-1-In Motion Offense

Alongside Bob Knight's motion offense DVDs this 3DVD set is by far the best DVD's i own in regards to motion offense.Even though this style of offense is relatively out of fashion(since modern basketball loves perimeter play) and there are not any breakdown drills the presentation is very thorough and analytic.This kind of offense is very suitable if you want to have an offense that can generate many lay ups and mismatches. Personally i loved how coach Majerus utilizes the flare screen in his offense and i believe you can generate many ideas for your offense even if you don't want to implement this type of offense.

Great product by an incredible coach/teacher of the game. Coach Majerus provided great detail to his offense. Within his demonstration, Coach does a great job of explaining of how to utilize his best players within the offense. The ball movement displayed in his offense was something that I really enjoyed. This a must have DVD for any coach who runs, or is looking to gain more knowledge on a 4 Out offense.

The instruction here is fabulous. I love coaching this offense and I also feel it is the most fun to execute as a player - because its pure basketball. It provides a framework for infinite variation, spontaneity and the development your players’ basketball IQ by giving them the freedom to think about reads before routes. I also like it for its scalability, meaning that a youth team can begin with basic spacing and cutting, then build up to screening actions over time.

Aside from world class instruction, this video also gives a priceless glimpse into the unequalled passion the late Rick Majerus had for the game, including his appreciation of its intricacies and beauty and his respect for other coaching greats. One can sense that though over-flowing with detail, this video is just the tip the iceberg as to the depth of his knowledge as a coach, a student, and a fan of the game.

I fully agree with the previous reviews. Coach Majerus gives an outstanding presentation on the 4 out 1 in motion with a complete attention to details, solid teaching points, and an on court presentation in a closed setting. This production also gives us insight into what made him successful at a number of levels. I would recommend this to anyone looking to install this type of motion offense.

Coach Majerus, God rest his soul, put his whole heart into this production. To say that it is too detailed is ridiculous in my opinion. The problem I have with many instructional videos is that they lack depth and detail, particularly the ones produced in clinic settings. This video was produced in a closed setting with disciplined college players. Coach M not only explains the cuts and screens used in the offense he teaches technique and how to read the defense. I have over 100 basketball videos in my library and this one is right at the top of the list along with the old bob knight motion offense VHS tapes. Simply outstanding. The video also provides insight into just how good of a man and how great a teacher coach M was.

There is as much information in this one as any set you can see. The actual package is too much for most any team to fully adopt, but there are concepts throughout that you can apply to your already established attack or you can use the basics to form a nice offense at the high school and youth levels. What stands out to me is how technical Coach Majerus gets when explaining even things that might seem elementary, if you are patient and listen than you can learn a ton about posting, screening and spacing. It is dry and can get very slow which is why it doesn't get a perfect score from me, but it is still a product you will find useful information in and learn a lot from.

Majerus provides all detail you could want, but you could also pick and choose a few of the basic plays to run with a less experienced team. The information is there however to allow you to get much more complex/detailed with the 4 out and 1 in offense. Simplicity with detail.

Best DVD for the 4 out 1 in motion offense. Explains all of the concepts both in detail and in a way that is fully understandable by the both the coaches and the players. At his basic level this could be installed for an advance CYO team in two or three practices. At the highest level it is all you would need for a college level motion offense. A must buy.

Having trouble sleeping? Then buy this one!Honstly the materal was great, but the detail,detail detail gets to you after a while.It certainly has every thing you ever wanted to know about the 4-out-1-in,. but were afraid to ask.I own it and I'll use it,but I don't know if I'ed buy it again at the asking price.

The encyclopedia is a good name for this DVD. Man, he goes in to extreme detail explaining cuts, screens, switching, and everything else about the motion offense. It does get a little boring to watch.

This was a useful DVD, but not sure if it is worth the current price.

I feel that some of the things that he explains will be learned by players just playing the game over time. You can not install an offense for your team and explain everything he talks about. But if you are having trouble explaining certain parts of the offense then this would be a great DVD to pick up a few tips.

Very, very detailed approach to all the intricacies of the 4out/1in motion offense.
Coach Majerus covers even the smallest detail of the offense and does so with competence and clear demonstrations on the floor.

I consider this to be the best tape for anyone interested in the 4out/1in.

Worthy of consideration is the fact that I previously watched a more generic tape (by Paul Hewitt) and I suggest to do the same. Tapes like coach Hewitt's one can help in having a broad, generic view on the offense. Later on, coach Majerus tape can give you all the insights you need.
