Mike Jones, head basketball coach at perennial powerhouse DeMatha Catholic High School, puts a unique spin on the popular and effective flex offense.
Using on-court demonstrations, he breaks down offensive strategies into easy-to-follow steps for basketball players of all skill levels. Jones shares his version of the traditional flex screen as well as other popular techniques, emphasizing the importance of proper spacing and patience in creating opportunities for wide-open lay-ups.
In this highly instructional DVD, Coach Jones walks viewers through his practice strategies providing detailed drills specifically designed to get players flowing naturally into various flex options. For example, using a 2-on-2 break down drill, he demonstrates proper techniques on setting and executing the flex screen.
Coach Jones also covers individual drills for improving shots from the floor. Emphasis is placed on creating maximum scoring opportunities by developing versatile players who understand and can execute the fundamental principles of play regardless of position.
Since no offense is impenetrable, Jones shares four counter-measures to help ball handlers reach the rim: back-door cuts, pin-down screens, flare screens and ball screens. He covers three counters to keep the defense guessing when wing passes are denied. All options are demonstrated in a 5-on-5 manner to show how to counter defensive pressure.
Finally, Coach Jones offers four proven options for generating post-up opportunities and spot-up shots by attacking the hoop and creating baskets. He also offers strategies to effectively exploit defensive mismatches.
This DVD is packed with many extras from a successful coach who has brought innovation to a proven, time-honored offense. Inarguably the best coaching tool on the market for teaching and implementing a stronger, more effective flex option!

Excellent DVD and teaching tool. In terms of the system-- I''ve installed it and found that without a dominant big man or a rim attacking wing, it''s not as effective as traditional flex. The primary actions are a UCLA cut and a Flex cut, so if you have a great finisher that can score in traffic (or two) this offense is great for your program. If you have guys that need screens to set up jump shots (i.e. the down screen in traditional flex), this is not an effective system for your personnel.
I have bought over 20 basketball DVDs over the last 7 years and this is one of the best ones by far!
He shows you the offense, the rules, the options, how to get into vs pressure. Shows the what ifs and drills to run the offense and shots to work on. Excellent!
Interesting twist on the traditional flex offense with good ideas for counters and a couple of quick hitters.
5-stars. This is really a great DVD and well put together. The ease of the instruction makes this a great offense to teach at any level. Coach Jones presents this offense in a whole-part-whole method. He starts off by showing you all 5-players with 1 defender and building up until it is a 5 v 5 setting. Coach shows counters to when the defender is denying entry passes to the top or wing areas and the post area. This DVD also has breakdown drills and 2v2 drills to help players understood the flow of the offense. A really great DVD.
good job showing the offense and all its nuances ... nice little variation to the offense to keep your center near the rim area ... solid dvd on the flex offense, I would highly recommend for any coach looking to add the flex offense ...
Great video with a different, yet effective way to keep your best post player inside the lane area all the time.
Great video. He has a unique twist to the flex screen that allows for specialization by the flex screener. I think that most coaches that dabble with a 4 out 1 in offense would find something to utilize in their concepts.
This is a great DVD. Concepts are easy to follow and Coach Jones gives you great teaching points. We started running this with a few adjustments that fit out players, and doubled our points per game.
Excellent resource for a team who wants to run the flex but has a post they want to keep in the lane. It has many more options and opportunities for scoring than any flex video that I have seen.
