Lute Olson: 1-1-3 and 1-3-1 Match-Up Zone Defenses

Classic Coach Olson video! A great one to add to the collection - picked up some great tips on special situations!!

Quite a few years ago when I first started coaching JV, our school bought this dvd at the request of the head varsity coach. It was detailed enough that I was able to get several pages of notes on each defense, and have used the basics I learned for many seasons.
The majority of the dvd is spent on the 1-1-3, with its use of the long slide back to the lane by the wing defender when the ball goes to the corner. Less time is spent on the 1-3-1, but the basics are there and are fully shown. This is a good dvd to get if you want an introduction to two zone defenses or want to concentrate on the 1-1-3.

Waste of money! 1-1-3 is poorly explained and poorly demonstrated. Barely talks about the 1-3-1. Completely disappointed and pissed I wasted $40 on this video.

Didn't talk much at all about the 1-3-1. Most of the vid was on 1-1-3. Overall its okay.

I liked the way Coach Olson goes through and explains his defensive strategy. Being a newcomer to the coaching ranks, I look for any information that would beneficial to the success of my team. He is thorough in drill explanation, and the drills explained would make any practice a little bit better.

He clearly explains his 1-1-3 and demonstrates counters to common offensive tactics (dribble ups and downs, short corner, etc). Also includes some basics of the 1-3-1 as a complement to the 1-1-3. Not as aggressive as Huggins or Tarks 1-1-3, but still a good presentation.

Says little to nothing about a 1-3-1 zone!Was not impressed by how he tryed ;and I stress tryed,to teach the 1-1-3. Save your money on this one.Very disappointing.
