Winning every possession is the goal of the defense-minded Lon Kruger. He unpacks his defensive transition package with full court drills and shows how to communicate assignments on the fly. Using practice drills, Kruger teaches you how to work on eliminating dribble penetration, deny the passing lane, and trap the post player. He also shares drills on recovering from double teams in the post. Kruger demonstrates techniques on how to defend cuts, screens and scoring post players. An extensive lesson on defending ball screens will solidify your defense and limit dribble penetration and pick and pop shots. In addition, his multi-purpose shell drill allows for coverage of any offensive strategy or play. Kruger's instruction can drastically improve your team's ability to dominate the defensive end of the floor.

Lon Kruger is the other Coach K and every bit as informed. This terrific video explains a team M-M defensive foundation with on-court player demonstrations in a whole group approach (parts are not broken down). It begins with the often neglected team defensive transition phase and builds into half-court 5-5 including baseline help rotations. It covers defending the low post and pick-n-roll different ways as a unit but no other types of screens. Veteran coaches need this video as a reminder of forgotten or elusive concepts. Beginning coaches will benefit from learning a sound approach. These core team M-M principles must become second-nature and roll off your tongue as you instruct your own team. Coach Kruger includes some vital coaching tips and responsibilities which are often overlooked that will make you a better coach . . . telling a player what to do is not the same as training the player to do it habitually (a classic mistake often made by educators and parents telling is not teaching because words are soon forgotten) etc. Warning: This video is LIGHT ON INDIVIDUAL TECHNIQUES AND DRILLS (there are no magic drills) as the focus is on team coverage situations. Coach Kruger teaches each point succinctly but ran out of time to include everything.
