For the first time ever available on video, Jim Boeheim's Complete Guide to the 2-3 Match-up Zone Defense outlines the responsibilities, rotations, and reads for each player with marker board diagrams and then supported by on-court demonstration. The proper defensive slides are demonstrated against both odd and even front zone offenses. He then details key concepts such as scouting, trapping, communication, bump-down situations, controlling penetration, defending baseline running, protecting the 3-point line, releasing cutters, protecting the high post area, rebounding, and transition defense back in to the 2-3 match-up. This defense is perfect for changing the tempo of a game, creating turnovers, or simply accompanying a basic man to man.

The Master of the Zone. This DVD is great for those coaches wanting to learn or implement the zone into their team. Coach is also fairly entertaining and of course, true to his personality, honest and on point with his analysis and teaching. Covers the ways where a team may try to beat you by demonstrating the way you position and move the defense depending on where the ball goes.
The reason this is a 4 and not a 5 is because there are little to no drills and because I do feel he gets a little off tangent during the latter half where he is talking about how to defend 1 action but then goes to another action then goes back to talking about the first action he was speaking about. It would have been nice to se just a liiitle but more organization and depth but overall felt the DVD was pretty good for first time zone coaches
Very good explantion of slides, moving on air time of pass. Good concept with the bumping, dealing with short corner etc. Solid job.
Good video for high basketball. Every position is explained in detail. Great for someone who wants to commit to a match up zone
First off, this is not a match-up zone video. Coach Boeheim even states in the video they are playing spots according to where the ball is and they do not care where the off ball players are. That being said it is by far the best zone defense I have ever used. This zone takes discipline and it's hard to get your players to get on the corner t and front the post every time but this video will get you results. If you want the other team to not warm up at halftime because they are trying to figure out your zone this video is for you.
Purchased this to look at the defense and see what the hype was about. Very good DVD, has some great principles in terms of zone assignments. However, this more of a 3-2 matchup zone as opposed to a 2-3
explains his defense very well
There are two big problems with this video; a lack of buildup and progression plan to install the zone and poor organization, jumping from one idea to the next seemingly at random. The content in the DVD is very good, all of the ideas and strategies to defend actions that you'll run into seem well thought out and effective. Coach Boeheim is a vault of knowledge as he seemingly gave the presentation with no notes at all, which probably helped play into what I think was poor organization. Overall the information is good but its more of a supplement then a complete guide.
This is a excellent video on the 2-3 zone. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to implement this zone defens.
Excellent DVD, though not a true match-up, would have liked to see more break-down drills but I still would recommend using it with other defenses. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
This video was an excellent addition to my man to man defense. The lower corner trap worked well against teams taht ran corner overloads. Highly recommend, but is not a true match-up.
This was one of the best instructional videos I've seen. I sort of understand the posters who say there aren't many breakdown drills, but he shows you the alignment at the very beginning and explains the best way to teach it is a 7 vs. 5 shell drill. I'd say this video took my understanding of the 2-3 zone from a 5 to a 9 on a scale of 1-10. I'm going to use it more as a weapon this year rather than just something to fall back on when I can't match up with other teams. I highly recommend this video.
I wouldn't call this a complete guide to a 2-3 zone. It's more of an overview with very little instruction on building up to the zone.
Good explanation of his 2-3 zone. Not a lot of breakdown drills, but he does say that he likes to practice it 7 on 5 in practice. Very good dvd.
It,s not a match-up zone!!It,s a 2-3 zone with a few of Boeheim,s own ideas added. You should get Wayne Morgan,s dvd first if your teaching a 2-3 zone for the first time. This is a very good dvd for someone that has had experence with a 2-3 zone before.
Although the content regarding concept and shell were very good and Coach Boeheims anecdotes are entertaining, I felt the video showed very little in the installation and build-up of the actual defense. First-time Coaches or those looking to build a zone defense from the ground up should be wary, this product will leave you asking more questions than it answers. There is a level of knowledge assumed when you purchase this video meaning I would gladly recommend it for a Coach looking to emulate or enhance your their own 2-3 zone using Boeheims concepts.
Great DVD! Jim Boeheim shows that the 2-3 Zone doesn't have to be a "passive defense" as he teaches pressure on the shooter as well as various trapping opportunities presented with this defense. I liked it because the concepts are simple to teach even at the middle school level.
If you are unfamiliar with the 2-3 zone this would be a good DVD for you. The zone shown is what many call a 2-3 bump zone, where players bump each other off. He also shows trapping out of the zone as well.
