This dangerous action is looked at from both the offensive and defensive perspective. The pick & roll is the best offensive weapon in today's game. It is also the most difficult to defend. Van Gundy examines screening angles and how to defend each screen & roll. The six angles covered are the high, side, step-up, shake, spread and straight on pick & rolls. The "spread" pick & roll positions three players outside the 3-point line. The NBA game has transitioned to the four-perimeter line-up, which Van Gundy explains, and really benefits from the spread. Pick & roll combinations can also be used in the half court. An example would be to flow from the high to the side pick & roll. Van Gundy details various screening situations and angles. Each of these is a great tool for scoring points in the half court. Additional options are the "on the run" and "transition" pick & roll. Using this system can produce good shots and lots of free throws. Successfully defending the pick & roll will allow your team to discourage your competitors from gaining an offensive edge.104 minutes. 2006. Ratings & Reviews Jeff Van Gundy: Executing and Defending the Pick & Roll, Part I & II on August 1, 2018 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by EfthimiosS An excellent DVD that gives you insight on the different types of pick n roll and how NBA teams execute it in offense and how they face it in defense. Jeff Van Guddy has done an exceptional job in presenting and teaching the basic aspects of the pick n roll. Was this review helpful? Van Gundy then shows the coverages he would use against these, as well as various other options. Some excellent tips are provided for the ballhandler who wil use the screen also. Very detailed and nuanced. Coach Van Gundy also makes some excellent points as to key statistics that will gauge the success of your team. 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? Yes No Jeff Van Gundy: Executing and Defending the Pick & Roll, Part I & II on June 25, 2012 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by Jstnblke41 One interesting tidbit is that while Van Gundy is incredibly sarcastic and light-hearted on TV he is very dry and at times tough to listen to in this presentation in my opinion. It is still an excellent DVD, great explanations on how to really defend PnR from a lot of different angles and situations and some good stuff from the offensive standpoint that I haven't heard before. This is the 3rd NBA level tape that I have seen from the Cotton Fitzsimmons clinic (the other two being from Coach Popovich and Coach Eastman) and all of them have had a ton of information. Great value from these videos compared to most others that I have seen. 6 of 7 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? Yes No Jeff Van Gundy: Executing and Defending the Pick & Roll, Part I & II on October 5, 2011 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by Anonymous Outstanding video! Not only talks about the Pick and Roll Offense but also Pick and Roll Defense. Van Gundy is very detailed and has some great teaching points about screening angles, setting the man up for the ball screen, etc. If you run a lot of ball screens I think this is a very valuable tool! 2 of 2 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? Yes No Jeff Van Gundy: Executing and Defending the Pick & Roll, Part I & II on August 10, 2011 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by Anonymous Spends a lot of quality time on the various aspects of the pick and roll. He really gives the defensive rotations for all five players not just the two players involved in the pick action. This is NBA coaching at its best. As far as executing the P and R on offense its good but not great. But again this focuses on one small aspect of the game. Very detailed without becoming boring. Most teams will use some form of pick and roll in their offense especially when time is running down and a player needs to get free. You have to know how to defend it and how to execute it. I also like the DVD with Billy Donovan's spread pick and roll offense as well. 3 of 3 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? Very valuable resource. 9 of 9 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful?
