NBA Coach of the Year Gregg Popovich explains and demonstrates 10 of his most effective drills - the same drills he uses to train top NBA players such as Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli and Kawhi Leonard.
He also breaks down his motion offense, reveals what makes it so potent, and showcases specific wrinkles the Spurs have used to win five NBA Championships.
With every drill you will learn the importance of building discipline and defense as the foundation of your practice, even when players are working to develop their offensive skills. The drills shown in this video are all used in training camp, during the regular season and even throughout the playoffs.
To run any offense, players must be proficient in the fundamentals. This segment features six practice drills and their variations for developing fundamental skills like pivoting, cutting, spacing, pick and roll actions and getting open.
Amongst the drills, you will see a simple 3-on-0 pass and cut drill, which is a staple for the Spurs and is run in practice throughout the season. From this fundamental drill, Coach Pop is able to build into 3-on-3 and 4-on 4 weave drills that develop passing, thinking and decision-making.
An excellent drill for establishing your defense is the 4-on-4-on-4 drill. Conditioning and communication are two key elements of this competitive drill, as it features constant action and limited breaks for the players, who must learn how to be consistent with their defensive efforts as they tire quickly.
To teach several defensive principles, the Full-Court 1-on-1 Drill. This is a great drill that emphasizes defense and helps athletes practice motion offense principles. Coach Pop helps players see that even a less athletic player can still defend at a high level.
With the Spurs' constant motion offense and unselfish play, they have made being a team popular again.
In this segment, you'll learn the details and origin behind Coach Pop's motion offense.
Centering his instruction around two main setups, Popovich discusses how he uses his players in the offense based on their skill set. Knowing how to get the most out of every player is essential in any offense, but Coach Popovich is one of the best at getting players in the right situations on the floor.
The first area of emphasis covered is spacing the floor. You'll learn how to get players to space out in transition and get quick hitters that can be used if everyone gets down the floor fast and maintains spacing.
Coach Pop shows multiple sets, including "Strong" and "Weak," two of the most basic motion sets used by the Spurs. Both sets will create lots of options for your players, and can include actions such as screening for shooters, dribble hand-offs and ball screens.
Coach Pop discusses the subtleties and adjustments within the offense and runs players through them multiple times, so you get a better idea of how to execute each alternative look. Whether it's working on the pick and roll from the wing or working to feed the post, Coach Popovich centers the offense around his point guard's actions.
You'll learn how to run his Loop Series, which provides even more options for meeting individual and team needs.
Coach Pop's knowledge and teaching style have helped his teams achieve success each and every year. If you want a DVD that centers around teaching players how to play offense and build their fundamental skills, this one is a must. You'll learn from one of the game's greatest coaches and discover why he's so successful year after year.

These are pretty good drills and great explanations.
Gregg Popovich: My Favorite Drills and Motion Offense Useful video tutorial. Unfortunately created a long time ago, new ideas Coach (Gregg Popovich) no. However, high-quality product is widely used in everyday coaching. Good value for money
Starts out with very basic drill like: pass - curt-screen. Next weave drills. These drills determine what your players are: leader-talker
But it end with a fantastic view of the motion offense. This is great stuff. The humor is pluspunt. Great dvd.
It goes without saying that "Pop" is one of the greatest coaches we have had in the NBA. I've watched his teams and utilize his philosophy of spacing in my 15u dribble drive motion offense. I have my boys watch Spurs games to gain an understanding of how to move and maintain spacing for an unstoppable offensive attack. Thanks "Pop" and thanks Championship Productions for a great video.

I Give this a 5*****
I Think that every Young coach should get a little something from i think the best basketball coach! in the NBA
You will have to go through this video a few times to get the motion offense down. It's not easy to follow. But it's worth it, I use this offense and I'm getting fantastic results. One problem is if you use this offense they wont stay in their man long so have your zone offense ready to go. The drills are decent nothing too special. The insights from pop are really good.
Great dvd! drills are simple and also very effective. the ''4 on 4 on 4'' drill is excellent!!
most of the options demonstrated from the motion offense are really useful. A must have for everyone!
Good video with good drills which you can use yourself in practise. I already do. Popvich explains wel and in spite of beeing different subjects its is not confusing.
Great drills for basketball IQ. Can definitely see why the Spurs always seem to consistently among the best teams in the NBA
Excellent video! Easy to follow and can implement drills immediately. Stresses fundamentals and competition. Talks about intangibles of players and how those are discovered through use of his drills. Well worth $40!
Buy it! Great video! The drills were easy to follow and explain and they've quickly become favorites of my varsity boy's team. If you want to improve your defense, your team communication and bring intensity to your practices, then get this video.
If you are buying this for the motion offense, then I would think twice. I thought the value was in the defensive drills, the team transition drills, and the competitive drills where points were only awarded for defensive stops.
If you want to learn the Spurs Motion offense, there are other sources I thought were better.
I absolutely loved everything about this video. I love the competitive 4-4-4 defensive drill. The early offense into motion is excellent!!
Very good DVD. The motion offense is awesome.
Lots of quality pieces and emphasis. Drills are very good and the motion pieces interesting and well illustrated.
This is a pretty cool video. While the drills are pretty basic, some of the ideas on how to incorporate them by Pop are very interesting and work to challenge the players physically and especially mentally. I particularly enjoyed the overall tempo that he had the players work at, even in the clinic setting! The 4 and 5 out drills are probably my favorites, both fit in great with a sideline or middle break transition team. Pops motion offense is especially impressive, the basics of it can be installed at youth levels but there is certainly more then enough depth for a varsity team to use it as well (probably too much for a varsity team!). Fantastic DVD.
Great video for anyone wanting an inside look at what makes the spurs such a great team.
I gave it a "5 stars". Popovich is a terrific teacher and this tape is full of useful and interesting ideas. The DVD is divided in two parts:- team drills- motion offenseDrills are competitive and emphasize defense first.Motion offense is built from transition and goes on with different options.
