Coach Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in college basketball. On the court, his success includes five national championships, five national coach-of-the-year awards and a 20-year record of 557-111 (.834). His topic on this DVD is the High Post Offense as he shares crucial teaching points that have allowed his teams to dominate offensively. Auriemma uses players in live 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 settings to illustrate the principles of the offense. A majority of teaching is done in the 3-0 or 3-3 settings, progressing to 4-on 4 and 5-on-5. Entering the ball into the high post at either elbow is an important skill for guards. The back door/hand off sequence is a quick-hitting option in this offense. On wing entry, the point guard rubs off the high post for a lay-up. The next option is an on ball screen and roll, creating problems for the defense. The small-big back screen also gives flexibility to this well-rounded offense. One of the most difficult cuts to guard is the scissors action at the high post. The dribble weave adds flexibility and is a key to this offense. The "40" series presents the offense with several options from the same action, which makes scouting difficult for opponents. Effective down screens and cutting options are important for the two weak side players. A cornerstone of Auriemma's teaching focuses on "teaching players how to play" versus teaching them plays. A final section discusses how players can read the defense, which is a big part of playing the high post. The 3-Man Read and React drill helps players flourish in the offense. This offense is multi-dimensional and will challenge the defense in many ways. The High Post offense is as effective against zones as man-to-man. Because of its versatility, you can save practice time by working on this multi-purpose offense.
89 minutes. 2006.
Another excellent video/DVD by Championship and coach Auriemma. 1). Here you have coach teaching you how to read a defense. 2). You get more options on how to run the high post offense.3). You get how to run your offense against different zone defenses. And what I really like about coach Auriemma, is his ease of progression. He communicates so well. You start off with a basic entry pass from the PG to the high post area and it builds from there, quickly! Lastly, you get coach giving you advice. So many coaches want to make the game of basketball seem like it is complicated...not coach Auriemma. The advice he gives you is priceless. Awesome DVD. If you are a coach who knows how to run this offense and does not like to add anything new, this aint for you. But if you are a coach who likes to add a new wrinkle or two to your high post offense, this is the DVD for you. I use this offense along with the triangle offense and coach Auriemma has given me some ideas to add this season. I can't wait until the season starts!!! Thanks, Coach and Championship!!
I disagree with the other reviews, I like this video more then Genos' Triangle/High Post DVD. This includes some nifty warmup transition drills and I think it gives more ideas and options to run. This video certainly isn't a complete guide to the high post offense, but there are a lot of great coaching tidbits from Coach Auriemma and you can easily create a nice motion offense out of the concepts that are presented. Really cool video to me.
Decent video, but I learned more from his other DVD on the High Post and Triangle Offense.
Very disappointing. While he does give you some options you can you use in the offense, he never really gets into the nuts and bolts of how to teach and run the offense from scratch. surely there is a continuity to the offense. He never covers that. This is far from being a complete guide to the high post offense. It might be a nice supplement if you already know how to run the offense.
