Frank Allocco: Intangibles for Building a Successful Basketball Program

This is a tremendous video. If you are looking for a video full of drills and x's and o's talk this is not that. This video is essentially a bible on the roots in which you can build your program. I won't apply everything Coach Allocco said to my program (and trust me, there is a lot of great points) because at the end of the day, the values of your program need to be provided by yourself, and not someone else. But what I will do is remember the foundation in which my program and every program should be built on. Coach Allocco really gets you thinking about the important things. As he mentions, it isn't just about the wins and losses, and if that is what your program is built on, your program has no identity. Thought provoking comments from Coach Allocco can be found literally throughout the entire video.

Every single coach should have this video, and I will watch this a couple of times every off-season. While it's important to be flexible and always learning about the X's and O's of the game, it's even more important to remember the core things, such as values and basic fundamentals. So the next time you're searching to buy a DVD on some offense which you will probably never use, but have to have it in case you one day might run it, purchase this video instead, because Coach Allocco's words and thoughts are worth much more to your program than any offense or defensive strategy.

Surprisingly good video...based on other reviews I knew that this was more of a "lecture" than a x's and o's video. But I gave it a shot and wasn't disappointed. It's more of a motivational talk for coaches. Coach outlines his standards and shares his philosophy of coaching. I liked his stories and how he had an example for everything. It really made me think about my program. Good stuff and quite interesting.

Great dvd for any coach wanting to build a program. There are a lot of things from this dvd that I can use to make my entire program better.

If you buy just 1 or 2 videos a year, this should be one of them! I wish I had this video when I first started coaching.

This is one for every coaches library. There is basically nothing in terms of drills or x's and o's so don't expect that. What you should expect is how to hold your program to a higher standard, not just your team but your program. Its an excellent talk that probably includes a lot of things you think you already know, yet Coach Allocco practices everything he preaches year in and year out while other coaches forget the little things. You need to check this video out if only to remind yourself that there is a lot more to having a successful program then having a great offense or defense on paper.
