Force your opponents to constantly react, rather than dictate the action on offense.
Coach Klaas has compiled an incredible record and has been consistent throughout his coaching career. The reason for his success is the 1-3-1 zone. This defense starts with ball pressure, utilizes both" traps and fake traps" and provides tremendous "team help."
Coach Klaas starts the DVD by explaining the personnel required to play each position. He goes over the "five rules" needed to play the 1-3-1, which include stance, watching the eyes of the passer, move when the ball is in the air, look for deflections and aggressively go to the boards.
Klaas teaches the simple execution of the defense. Klaas demonstrates the many adjustments that can be made out of this very effective defense by "overloading the defense." He offers countless teaching points in stopping penetration, handling screens, and applying various traps. Klaas also teaches adjustments for various situations such as playing against a 7-footer, good shooting teams and penetrating guards.
This defense is predicated on multiple coverages out of the 1-3-1 alignment. Klaas includes different trapping options, such as corner traps, trapping when the ball crosses half court and extending the 1-3-1 as a _ court half-court press. Finally, Klaas briefly explains a 3-2 zone he has been experimenting with.
Coach Klaas concludes this DVD with 10 minutes of game footage that reinforces the alignments and rotations that have allowed his teams to consistently upset more athletic opponents.
90 minutes. 2009.
Great DVD. The coach did an execellent job of teaching the defense. I look foward to emplementing the defense next season and would definitely by another DVD from this coach. He is an excellent teacher of defense and this was a great buy!
i really liked the many different thought processes coach Klaas has in switching up this zone defense. I would have liked to see a little more of the full court situations. Also, the zone offenses against it never showed any movement...offensive players, although 6 v 5 and 7 v 5, were always stagnant. good teams have movement, cuts, and screens in their zone offenses. Otherwise, very good.
Best 1-3-1 zone CD out there that I have seen and I have purchased quite a few of them. Simple, easy to implement and will be a staple of my defense this coming winter.
great DVD from a great Coach
This is a well done video. I would highly recommend it. Very straightforward, with game clips thrown in to reinforce.
This was absolutely the best dvd I've purchased in a while. The different calls you can call.out of the defense makes it worth getting and coaching your players not just teaching.
Very well taught defense. I like how he says don't coach your players, teach them; and IMO, that certainly works wonders. I hope no coaches that I face get this tape b/c this defense is tremendous. My second team (sub players) eat my starters up 5 on 6 w/ this defense, and its not like this w/ any other defense we play!!
Fantastic DVD, I have over 60 DVD's, this is by far one of the best DVD's that I have purchased. It is well organized, it has great game footage with voiceovers to illustrate the concepts. He Steve also does a great job of discussing adjustments and counters. I also like his philosophy of teach the defense rather than coach it.
Great DVD! Coach Klass Does a good job in explaining the defensive assignments for each player. Worth the money if you want to learn 1-3-1.
Great DVD for a team who is willing to work hard at a defense that will allow you to have some options in different game situations.
I purchased this on vhs 5 yrs ago. It really simplifies the teaching of this defense. i coach at the middle school level and we play 1-3-1 and it's a big part why we haven't lost in 3 years. Gotta get the dvd
