Adrian Dantley is one of the best smaller players ever to dominate the post in the NBA. Throughout his career he made a living on the block even though he was consistently smaller than his opponent. He also found his way to the foul line with consistency. This all happened because he took the time in the gym to work on the fundamentals of the game and he practiced those fundamentals over and over.
In this DVD presentation, Dantley teaches you a post player workout that should become your daily routine before or after practice, as well as in your off-season. This workout will build up your fundamental footwork in the post, progress into automating finishes close to the hoop, and ultimately turn you into a tough scoring machine in the post. The hook shot is one of the most under used moves in basketball. Kareem Abdul-Jabaar is the all time scoring leader and the hook shot was his go to move. In this video, Dantley demonstrates the move, shows how to learn it and then uses it along with other basketball moves as an effective way to finish at the rim. Even perimeter players can use this killer shot to finish around the rim and avoid being blocked by taller players.
Dantley then takes his game down to the low post. Here he shows some of the fundamental drills he used to develop his game around the basket. The Mikan drill is a staple in his workout and he shows how using it on a daily basis will help any player be efficient around the basket. The drop step is an effective way to seal the defender behind you as you attack the rim. Dantley demonstrates this along with other low block moves.
Dantley was not limited to the low post. He easily took his defenders out to the perimeter and attacked from there. He wouldn't have been about to do this however if he hadn't built a solid foundation to work from. Dantley demonstrates how to build this base. Working on the forward pivot and the reverse pivot is the beginning of this process. Being able to efficiently pivot in multiple directions will increase your scoring options. These simple moves will set you up to work on the next part of your game, your attack moves. Dantley shows you how to effectively execute the crossover, between the legs, behind the back and spin move to get you open looks at the rim.
