Coach Dakich, who played for IU and then immediately became an assistant for Bobby Knight, from '86 to '97, learned the finer points of teaching motion offense from "the Master" and helped coach IU to 11 NCAA Tournaments, five "Sweet 16" appearances, and one NCAA Championship. In Teaching the Five-Man Motion Offense, Dakich shows you everything you need to know about five-man motion with on-court demonstrations. He shares his rules on ball movement, player movement, positioning fakes, screening, and ball reversal. Dakich demonstrates the effective use of the dribble and the rules to follow when passing the ball. Using the whole-part-whole teaching technique, he demonstrates 2-on-2 through 5-on-5 drills that will help position your players in the gaps versus man-to-man defense. Dakich demonstrates every possible screening technique and angle that your players may need along with every possible cut and read that they may experience within this offense. He shows the basics of a sound five-man motion offense and the options to take advantage of individual skills and different defensive coverage's. This is a great offense for any level of play and provides you with a unique opportunity to take advantage of any team you play!

This is not a great video on motion offense. Coach Dakich does have some good ideas that he mentions in his lecture. I feel that his overall motion philosophy could be presented in a more systematic way. The video is also light on breakdown drills to help install the motion offense. If you're already a motion coach and have a good grasp on how you teach your offense, then you might find an idea or two that you like. If you are looking for a video to show you how to teach motion from the ground up, you should probably look elsewhere.
