For 40 years, Barry Hecker has been teaching kids, high school players, college players and NBA players how to shoot the basketball. In this on-court presentation, Coach Hecker teaches you a shooting progression workout every ambitious player should go through on a daily basis. He breaks down the fundamentals of shooting, gives you tons of drills to work on and shows you one of the most forgotten weapons in the game of basketball.
Balance is the foundation of a good shooter. While simple, this aspect of the game is as important as anything else. A good jump shot will begin with the proper footwork that will allow the player to square up to the basket and jump straight up. Getting your feet in the right position before you shoot is part of developing good balance. Coach Hecker demonstrates jumpstops and reverse and forward pivots to work on balance. He also stresses keeping your butt low and your head up as you work on these things.
A forgotten piece of the shooting puzzle is finding the seams. By consistently getting your fingers in the same spot when you catch the ball you are sure to get the proper rotation on your release. Coach takes the time to demonstrate the proper shooting form. He uses a 5 lb dumbbell as a great tool for correcting the 3 most common problems he has seen with shooting form. He breaks down a jump shot with simple drills and teaching points will accelerate the learning process for your players.. These drills take the excuses out of practice and allow you to develop consistency in your workouts and in your shot techniques. Coach Hecker has developed some interesting ways to help players learn how to better shoot the ball. One of his best can be seen as he does the "get it up drill." Using a hula hoop he is able to force his shooters to create a better arc on the ball to stop players from shooting a flat shot.
Coach Hecker then spends some time teaching and then drilling one of the forgotten weapons in the game of basketball, the hook shot. This deadly shot is almost undefendable. Coach Hecker takes the time to show you some basic drills that will help you develop the proper technique before you even shoot at the basket. He then gets his players on the court to work on this shot around the rim as well as when attacking the rim. Again, this shot is so difficult to defend that it is truly amazing it is rarely seen in basketball anymore.
During the later part of the presentation Coach runs his player through a shooting progression that will not only help develop a better shot but also keep the shooter challenged as he works out. An added bonus is the post entry pass part of the video. Here coach shows the importance of passing by the ear and creating space to make that pass.
This on-court demonstration is great for motivated players and coaches of any level looking to develop great shooters. Coach Hecker is clear with his explanations and shows you the value of all of the drills in the DVD. Barry Hecker's Shooting Progression Workout will turn you into a dead-eye shooter that will change the way your opponent defends you.

you must work for Championship Productions. I was probably a bit harsh with my review, but I was giving my opinion.
I would have to disagree with the reviewer above. This video is about mastering the fundamentals of footwork and shooting. Barry has a lot of great drills on this video to add to your arsenal. This isn't a waste of $40.00 dollars, but a nice investment to those looking to master the fundamentals. There are no secrets or magic tricks to shooting a basketball. This video is about the fundamentals which means basics... There are only so many ways to shoot a ball, so if your looking for something you never seen or heard of... good luck! Let me and Championship Productions know when you find it. Excellent Video for anyone who wants to know what it takes to get to the next level College or NBA.
I was hopeful for something innovative here, but it was just basics I've been teaching for years. I wasted forty bucks on this.
