In this on-court clinic presentation, Chris Mack shares everyday drills that are the backbone of his aggressive pack line defensive system.
Coach Mack teaches the defensive basics using individual and team drills that will:
After building the basics, Mack breaks down post defense from initial positioning on the floor to positioning after the offensive catch in the post. You will see his wall up technique for post defense that will create "the toughest 3-foot shot to make."
Bringing all of the basic defensive concepts and rules together, Mack demonstrates his 3-out, 1-in (unguarded post) drill, his 3-on-3 identity drill and 3-out 1-in identity drill (4-on-4 with a post) to train the players in a game-like tempo.
Coach Mack's Xavier teams are known for their aggressive man defensive play and this DVD gives you insight into how you can implement these defensive principles and drills.

Thought this was a great DVD for new pack line coaches trying to instill their philosophy and get some drills that help build up the defense. There is about 6-8 drills that are extremely helpful in doing exactly what the title says, building up the pack line. new pack line coaches would get a lot of this DVD as Mack not only goes over drills and teaching points but he is constantly talking about the philosophy of the defense and giving you reasons as to why they do the things they do at his program. Even if you arent fully aware of the pack line but know some basics to it, this will give you a pretty good in depth look at the defense as a whole if you are paying attention and following along.
If you are a long time pack line coach, I think you will probably know a lot of whats in this DVD and should stay away from it but for new or first time pack line coaches, I think this would be a really solid purchase. It does not go over ball screens and screens though so that is a negative but theres enough teaching and philosophy points that are very insightful.
I am changing my program over to the Packline defense I purchased this DVD and Sean Miller''s DVD. I really enjoyed both of them. Coach Miller tells you about how the defense is run and how to guard situations, While Coach Mack teaches more breakdown drills (nothing for screens). I was worried that getting both would be repetitive, but they are very good compliments of each other. If you run the Packline or want to learn how I would highly suggest these two DVD''s. If I had to buy again and had a bigger budget I would probably get the All Access DVD''s though. I think it is easier when it is in a practice setting and using their own players rather then using some team in a clinic that doesn''t run what they are teaching.
I have been a Knight disciple for years - Coach Mack had changed my defensive philosophy.
Want to know if someone can really coach? Ask them how they guard the post and why? Mack addresses this right away. His reasoning is to not be caught on low side on ball reversal. Shows and explains his concepts very clearly. A true PACK LINE believer. The intensity and detail is so good that I just ordered his all access DVD. I own pack DVDS by Gregg Marshall, Dick Bennett and Brad Soderberg. All four excellent but this just edges them out as the best. Great coach
Loved this video. He does a great job explaining his philosophy on defense and giving you the teaching points for the critical aspects of pack line defense. All the drills are excellent and ones I''ll be adding into my practices next season. I like this much more than the Bennett or Miller video although also getting one of those would be a good idea if you are new to this style of defense. I wish he could have covered screens, but it''s hard to complain when what you get with this DVD is already more than worth the price!
wish this was an instant download.Championship Productions replies:It is now. Enjoy!
Video is well done and explained very well. Have used all the drills and concepts with my team for the past month to improve our defense and have seen a tremendous improvement. Would recommend this DVD to anyone looking to improve their individual and team defense
Very good, detailed video. He explained their defensive philosophy well & gave some good drills to implement it.
Outstanding video that introduces the basic concepts of the pack defense. Highly recommend to any coach.
Good DVD explaining the principles of the Pack-Line defense. Good drills and good explaining on why Coach Mack does certain things.
An excellent tape - good drills for teaching basic pack line philosophy. Only criticism - would have liked to have seen how he drills defending different types of screens but other than that, well worth the money.
