2013 USA Men's Basketball World University Games Head Coach; 2013 Southern Conference Champions; 8x SoCon Coach of the Year; 2008 NABC Coach of the Year; over 400 career wins

Fill your playbook with excellent motion and set offenses that will help your players become better on the offensive end of the court.

2013 USA Basketball World University Games Head Coach Bob McKillop details the offensive system he uses to put breakdown drills in place. You will learn how to teach the offense within your program and discover the concept of attacking the attacker to create flow and rhythm in your offensive. McKillop emphasizes simplicity, which enables players to read the defense and create the appropriate rhythm and flow.

Using on-court demonstrations to present the basic principles of the Davidson offense, McKillop describes how these drills have created teams that are successful on the offensive end.

You will learn how to teach your players to attack space, find the open man, catch and see the floor, dribble with a purpose, and finish the cut in order to make your half-court offense unstoppable. Coach McKillop uses on-court demonstrations to teach five drills that instill these concepts, yet keeps your offensive game simple. These drills will help players become better decision-makers on the court.

This is one of the best DVDs you can buy at any level to help teach players how to play basketball - not just a patterned offense. Coach McKillop's concepts are easy to implement at any level and will help every player develop into an offensive threat.

There is a lot of great theory that is presented, but I question the way that it's taught to the players. There are only a small handful of drills that work with reading defense and making the right play, although granted they are all very good. A big turn off for me was seeing Coach McKillop let the players fail time and time again and while he would correct them he would also talk to the audience for a few minutes at a time whenever it happened. As a viewer I want to see more material and learn how to correct players quickly and get right back into practice, Coach McKillop seems to really believe in letting players figure it out themselves, even when they obviously haven't done anything quite like he was doing with them before. There is certainly some merit to this as his teams have earned a reputation as being very good executing motion offense and making decisions, but as a clinic it leaves a lot left out and a whole lot of time wasted. The information is good, the drills are sound and the offensive rules I thought were well thought out. This is not a great one to check out though for coaches wanting to implement material or learn how to really teach efficiently.

This is a true 3 1/2 star video for me. I was very close to giving it a 4 but there wasn't quite enough for me. Gone over are Coach McKillops rules for offense and a few drills to get the habits he wants down. The drills look like a wreck however because they're installed not really to teach but more to make points to the coaches watching which has its own merit but didn't leave me really fired up about the drills. There are a few really good ideas and nuggets thrown in that did get my imagination going, but I was excited about this one and sort of let down. Decent for motion coaches and youth coaches wanting to teach the game, I think there are better options.

I'm giving this DVD a 4 rating for a couple reasons. First of all, McKillop essentially covers everything from his first DVD: "Building Your Offense with a Purpose". All the rules and principles are the same, as are some of the drills, which speaks volumes about his consistency and faith in his core beliefs but does not do much for a coach already familiar with them and seeking something new. Also, I realize the DVD is called "Drills to Build Your Offensive Imagination" and so that is really all it must cover. But aside from one set play he breaks down with the high school players he works with in the DVD, there aren't examples of the end result/product of drilling your players in this manner. I would've liked to have seen McKillop narrating Davidson game footage and showing how these drills either made a set play successful or turned a broken set play into a positive possession on various occasions. Aside from that, McKillop does a masterful job of presenting his rules and principles and is a top-notch speaker, engaging the audience numerous times.

There should be a 6 stars rating because Coach
McKillop gives it in this presentation. Great points for using your Imagination for building an Offense...and just as well for Defense and Transition. His passion is just so powerful.I'm using these points this season to explain the why's that lead to the details of how to attack a defender and so much more. If you want to see a Master teach the game of basketball the right way. Get this one.
