University of Georgia's Coach Landers has used, and recommends using, the full court press for one reason - because most other teams don't! He thinks that if you practice, and perfect, the full court press, not only will your team be able to harass the other team, you will be able to break any pressure they put on you. In this excellent presentation (filmed at one of the largest demonstration clinics in the US), Coach Landers shares 8 effective drills to perfect your full court pressure. He divides the court into three areas and teaches you different ways to pressure each area. With the help of on-screen graphics and on-court demonstrators, Landers demonstrates each drill first and then lets you see it at full speed. The drills start with 1 on 1 and move up to more complex, 5 on 5 drills, that help players learn the full court press. The drills shown in this video, and the building blocks for the press that Coach Landers demonstrates, are essential for any press. Whether you run a 2-2-1, 1-2-2, 1-2-1-1, or a Run and Jump full court press, this material can help you with positioning, spacing, ball pressure, and help defense.
78 minutes. 2005.
Great Dvd, The explication by Andy Landers is easy to understand . I apply it to my team this year and we are having a lot of success. I recommend this dvd to anybody who want a great full court man to man. It's the best dvd I brought on pressure defense. A must for any coach .
Great dvd! The progression of drills is well done, and the drills are good drills. His coaching style is very unorthodox, but I like it.
Great DVD - really impressed with how this video was presented, both by Coach Landers and the video producers. Drills were very useful and they way they were taught was very helpful - a great way to build pressure defenses.
Great DVD! One of the best purchases I've ever made from Championship Productions. For those who don't press this is a must own if you are thinking about it. This video really breaks down how to press and teaches it from the ground up.
As far as the quality of the topics covered it was great. Mainly because of the no nonsense approach of Mr. Landers. He'd be a tough son of a gun to play for but he knows defense. The issue with this DVD is that it is woefully incomplete. No fault of his own. When you are filming a clinic presentation this automatically imposes a time limit. The philosophy and basics are covered and thats it. Andy Landers needs a full 2+ hrs and his own DVD not just part of a clinic. I love this coach and hope to see him do another more in depth presentation. If that happens I buy it no questions asked !! Bring Andy back please.
Already in the first building blocks, which look very basic but are essential, coach Landers surprises with the insights he shares. He builds his press on a very solid foundation in his typical style. Not only what he teaches but also the way he teaches his stuff and communicates with the players contains valuable information. Probably the best DVD I have bought on this subject. I would recommend it highly and quoted on 10 I would had given a 9.
Even though Championshipproductions usually does a poor job with clinics they film, this DVD was very good and very useful. Coach Landers does a terrific job of demonstrating and teaching different skills and objectives in the press. Everything is taught in the context of man-to-man, but when he showed how to install a 2-2-1 press in about 90seconds, it was clear that he was teaching the true building blocks of all pressure defenses.
Thumbs down to Championshipproductions and whoever was running the clinic for not letting coach Landers have more time. If he had the time to show a 1-2-1-1, 1-2-2, 1-3-1 etc, this would be the best press DVD available. Why is this Championshipproductions' fault if the clinic cut his time short? Because they could jolly well have included a chalk-talk at the end or something.
Verdict: buy. Despite poor production quality and planning, coach Landers' personal brilliance makes this a truly valuable resource.
One of the best or the best video on teaching the concepts on how to full court press.
I agree with the other reviews. By far the best full court pressure breakdown DVD that I have see. At this time I have over 40+ dvd's and this is definitely one of the top 3 that I have purchased. I have been coaching HS girls basketball for 12+ years and I will use this to build my press next year.
I would strongly recommend buying this dvd.
The description provided for this video is extremely accurate...
"Whether you run a 2-2-1, 1-2-2, 1-2-1-1, or a Run and Jump full court press, this material can help you with positioning, spacing, ball pressure, and help defense."
The drills themselves were not only helpful but in concluding the video, Landers illustrates how they are directly applicable to the 1-2-1-1 and 2-2-1. The drills included here should be the first step used in implementing a full court press.
Coach Landers does a very good job of teaching the building blocks of full court defense. We use it at practice and it has worked wonders!
This is an excellent video for anyone who is interested in running a full court man-to-man defense. It gives great drills and easy rules for players to follow. It makes teaching the principles very easy for players to follow. He touches on other types of presses, however, these principles can easily be transferred for any type of full-court pressing defense. WAY BETTER THAN BILLY TUBBS VIDEO, IMO!!
Great at breaking down drills to improve man-man full court defense. Best man-man defensive dvd I've seen.
