In this first-of-its-kind video series, you will see how Don Showalter and staff prepare the Developmental National Team for its Gold Medal run in the 2011 FIBA U16 Championship in Cancun, Mexico. Get sideline and classroom access as Coach Showalter and staff narrow down the 27 players of the Developmental National Team to a roster of 12. Sit in on team meetings, practices and film study showing you what makes USA one of the elite competing basketball countries in the world.Individual BreakdownThe foundation of USA basketball is the daily fundamentals taught during individual post and perimeter breakdowns. Throughout these practice sessions the guards and big guys work on the designated actions of the offense. The staff teaches proper technique of how to use the screen to attack the "kill area" of the floor, keeping the defender off the line of the ball, and how to attack an aggressive hedge by the defense. Perimeter players are run through a series of chair and shooting drills, while the post players work on their drop step series, jump hooks and face up series while attacking the basket with aggressiveness. They also are drilled on flashing to the high post and working on a series of moves to enable them to score close the basket. Transition Offense & Offensive DrillsCoach Showalter focuses on getting the players to play hard on every possession and matching the incredible talent they possess with effort and drive to succeed at the highest of levels. The "Hawkeye Shooting" drill teaches the players how to run the floor, creates shots for everyone, emphasizes communication amongst the players, and reinforces the importance of passing the ball. In the "3-Man Fast break" and "Fast Break Cycle Work", Showalter prepares the players both physically and mentally by striving for goals to reach during the drills and recollection of actions that are called out by the staff.Man-to-Man: "20-Offense"Out of a 1-4 High Set, the USA Team utilizes wing pick & roll action to attack the "kill area" of the floor. Coach Showalter covers the basic "20-Offense" and the reads that the players must make coming off of the ball screens. Alongside the offense are three separate plays out of the 1-4 High Set; including similar actions that allow for post-up opportunities, staggered screens, and false action to occupy the defense. On the floor, you will see the team build their man-to-man offense in two separate scrimmages as the offense begins to unfold.Defensive Drills and Press DefenseThe USA coaching staff looks for players to separate themselves from the pack on the defensive end and the drills demonstrated showcase exactly that. In these practice sessions, the technique and strategy used to defend ball-screens, down screens, and flex screens are covered and drilled in a 4-on-4 Shell Drill. The "Texas Sidelines" drill shows you how Showalter prepares his players for building the 2-2-1 Press with their "3-Man Run and Slide Drill" and the "4-Man Run and Trap Drill." Coach Jones and Coach Gray cover the rotations and responsibilities of each position in the team meeting with the players before they break it down on the court. Throughout these practices the coaching staff makes adjustments to the trap based on personnel to increase ball-pressure and changing the positioning of the 2-2-1 Press. In this All-Access video set you see exactly why the USA Development National Team was able to capture the Gold Medal in Mexico. Strenuous practices that demand a great deal from the players both physically and mentally from beginning to end create a winning culture and chemistry among the players and staff! 858 Minutes (7 videos). 2011.All Access videos are designed to allow viewers from all over the world to see how successful coaches run their practices in a "live" practice setting. I liked this All-Access(I have 8 of them)DVD series the most. I loved the way DVD was formatted, with the coach giving you the practice plans of the day. You have the coaching staff going over a meeting with the players and giving great advice on what it takes to be good to great. This DVD gives the viewer a great plan on how to hold practice and teach. During the drills, the coaching staff gave excellent instruction and points of importance for the players to help them get better. For example during some of the post drills, the coaching staff stopped practice and let the players know that the effort was lacking. I loved that drills were highlighted at the bottom of the screen and the coaching staff went over some of the drills to give the viewer some idea of what to do with the drill. The one thing that I did not like was during position work, and it is a minor complaint. During position work the viewer got a view of the post for a few moments and then you would get the perimeter players doing their drill work. I wish that during this part of the DVD there was a maybe an extra screen in the top or bottom of the screen showing each position drill at their start, rather than cutting from one drill and jumping to the other position drill work already in progress. Just a minor complaint. But this DVD is excellent. 3 of 4 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? 6 of 10 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? They show a bit more behind the scenes action with team meetings and such. It was good to watch coaches coach as well, seeing how they went about implementing things during the practices. 1 of 2 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful?
