Coaching great Tara VanDerveer opens the doors for an All-Access look inside the successful women's basketball program at Stanford University. Using the first three practices of the 2010-2011 season, Vanderveer shows you how she and her staff prepare the Cardinal for competition.

Coach VanDerveer, the first Division I coach - men's or women's - to reach 1216 career wins, shares her thoughts and philosophy regarding practice planning, teaching with the whole-part-whole method, player relationships, coaching with a positive attitude, strength and conditioning, and effective use of video technology.

She shares her take on the triple post, triangle offense. She also offers an in-depth look at set plays, transition game and sets, zone offense and end line out-of-bounds plays.

You'll see how she uses individual component drills to reinforce fundamental skills like ball handling, passing, finishing at the basket and proper footwork. Shooting drills are also covered.

VanDerveer's coaching staff breaks down their base man defense by teaching on-ball defense, closeouts, doubling the post and defending ball screens. Also covered are transition defense, match-up zone defense and 1-2-1-1 full court press.

As an added bonus, you'll see how the Stanford coaching staff prepares for practice. You'll get the inside scoop on how they review video and prepare the practice plan.

This is a great Video showcasing a great collegiate program. The only thing that would make this (and most other All-Access DVD's) is for them to mike the assistant coaches as well.

The energy and precision seen in a Stanford practice was worth the price ... so many great concepts and the team buy-in is evident.

Nice to watch a Stanford practice, however, in the video description it sounded as if the coach would explain the drills (how to run and purpose)and tell me why she does certain drills. The purpose of the drills are not explained. My team runs the triangle offense so I am able to get a few ideas from it, but overwhelming amount of video to watch with no explanation into their thinking/planning. All you watch is her first few practices.
