Jeff Walz proved to be one the best young coaches in basketball when he took his 2009 Louisville team to the national championship game in just his second year as head coach.
Now you have sideline access to the first four practices of the 2010 season with Coach Walz. Throughout all four practices, he emphasizes fast-paced play, fundamental ball skills on offense, and tough defense.
RUNNING:See how Walz puts his team through a series of running drills designed to prepare them for the long season ahead. These drills will help prepare your team for fast break situations and transition offense and defense.
OFFENSIVE SKILLS:Learn fundamental breakdown drills for post and perimeter players, transition drills, ball handling work, ball screens and passing drills. Walz also has his players work on dribbling, driving to the basket and creating and finding open players.
DEFENSIVE SKILLS:Walz's hard-nosed style of play also shows in the way he teaches defensive fundamentals. The skills concepts he covers include deflections, guarding from baseline to baseline, close-outs and transition defense. He also introduces a shell drill that allows simultaneous practice of multiple offensive and defensive concepts.
SHOOTING & REBOUNDING:Get a lot of shots from every area of the court during your practices. From lay-ups, jumpers and 3-point shots to free throws, every shot is practiced over and over again. Walz also takes time out in every practice for offensive and defensive rebounding.
Coach Walz is only the second person to reach the national championship game in his second season as a head coach. His brand of basketball requires toughness and perseverance. This DVD set is your chance to learn how put the same brand on your program.
380 minutes (4 DVDs). 2010.
All Access videos are designed to allow viewers from all over the world to see how successful coaches run their practices in a "live" practice setting. All Access videos allow viewers to see the practices un-edited and in real-time. You will see how top coaches run their drills, interact with their team and staff, how they motivate their team, the cue words they use, the atmosphere of the practice and how practices are structured from day to day. Many coaches visit successful colleges and high schools to watch practice. But if you live out of state or out of the country, visiting another coach's gym can be costly. That's why we created the All Access Practice Series of videos -- to bring the practices to you!
The video supplied a variety of different drills that can be used to build transition offense along with several shooting and ballhandling drills. As a high school coach, I would have to adapt several drills to increase the repetitions due to the fact that we do not use a practice team similar to Louisville's.
