AAU Coaching Girls Basketball Series: Offensive Fundamentals

Sherri Coale went from a high school coach to a major DI program by being a "fundamentals" coach. In this DVD from Championship Productions and the AAU, Coach Coale teaches fundamental skills in four key areas. These skills will make your players effective in any offense.

Cutting
Create gaps in the defense that can be attacked for a score. Learn basket cutting, V-cuts, L-cuts, and back cuts and how they can be executed to free your players from a defender. Using 2-on-0, 3-on-0 and 4-on-0 drills, Coale shows how these cuts become a cornerstone for a great player and how you can take advantage of any defense.

Screening
Screens can provide several scoring opportunities from one basic action depending on how the defense plays you. Coale teaches how to set a proper screen that will allow your shooters and cutters to get open anywhere on the court. She also demonstrates the responsibilities for both the screener and receiver of the screen. Your players will greatly benefit from Coach Coale's 2-on-0 series that teaches down screens, flare screens, pin screens and back screens.

Feeding the Post
Attack the interior of the defense while providing scoring options for your perimeter players. Coale demonstrates how to post up, how to execute a post feed from the perimeter and how to cut or relocate for an open shot. You will learn the turn-and-face move for post players and how your post can "muscle on the top."

Spacing
With poor spacing, your players become easy to guard. Coale outlines several ways a player can move when a teammate is driving to the basket. This is an essential skill for any motion offense. Players need to be able to cut and relocate without the ball in order to create better scoring options. Coale does a fantastic job demonstrating how to move off of a chase and space, crack, and a drift drive by using a 4-on-0 driving drill where players are driving from the wing, baseline, or middle of the floor.
