Offense leads to defense in Coach Keno Davis' system. By running specific lanes on the court, players wind up on the proper defensive side of the floor and are ready to defend quickly. This successful spread 3-2 match up sets up by converting from offense to defense quickly. Davis stresses that this zone is built on solid fundamental man-to-man principles. Ball pressure depends on the shooting ability of the opponent's perimeter players. Coverage areas are key to being successful in the 3-2 match up. Areas include wing ball coverage, ball pressure, weak side help, inside and outside rebounding areas, block responsibilities, corner trapping, post double down with 4 and 5 and corner coverage with mismatches. To build this defense, Davis demonstrates the use of active hands and communication and includes drill work to reinforce this principle. One offensive strategy is screening against the zone. Specific coverage and teaching points allow this defense to cover any on ball screening action. The 3-2 match up can defend set plays and baseline runner, dribble out, two-guard front and high post coverage.
53 minutes. 2008.
If you want a 3-2 zone where the coach goes from point a to point b with at the end, showing drills and how to defend certain actions te offense does to this defense, i think tis is good.
He does a really god job building it up and throwing in drills and different things to help your defense out. One thing I really liked was how he usually gave 2-3 ways of how to defend a certain action, for example, lets say they are going 4-out and you need to defend the corner but the offense is creating a missmatch there and exploiting you, he gives 2 options you can do to counter that.
Keno does go in decent depth with soe of those areas, hes knowledgeable and wile there isn''t too many drills, there is enough to get you started. overall its a one of the better 3-2 zones out there if you don;t know much about it coming in and want to run it in your program from the ground up.
Would be a 4 except for one critical problem.
How do you put out a 3-2 zone tape without showing how you match up with a 2-1-2 offensive attack. For example in Flip Saunders Match up 3-2 or 1-2-2 DVD his major focus is defending the likely 2-1-2 attack . His teaching is good but that is a huge missing piece!
Great presentation. Step by step explanation. Also include drills and defensive assignments for special situations.
Defense for high post-screns and baseline runner
Must have dvd
Great presentation! Easy to find what you want and learned alot about how to run a 3-2 zone.
Pretty helpful. Coach Davis gives his basic rules on how defend skip passes and ball screens. Great defense if you have intelligent players with high defensive basketball IQs.
Really liked this presentation. A lot of man concepts that are very similiar to the pack defense with a few variations that are very good. Explains how to deal with offenses that like to attack zones in various ways.
